This antique umbrella has a bovine horn handle with an ornate repousse gold end hallmarked:
'18P.G'
Indicating that the end is made with 18-carat gold plate.
There is a maker's mark:
'H.I.'
The end is also ornately engraved with the initials of the original owner:
'MHC'
There is a repousse gold collar further down the shaft with an identical hallmark.

Cane shaft & frame that holds a black silk canopy.

One of the spokes is stamped with the maker's name:
'Laurus
S. Fox & Co. Limited
Paragon' 

For the renowned umbrella frame makers:
'Samuel Fox & Co'
‘It was in 1848 that Samuel Fox, a wire drawer by trade, started to make solid steel ribs in Stocksbridge, near Sheffield.
Fox was a master wire drawer and it was this skill in the production of fine-quality wire that he turned to the production of umbrella ribs.
Samuel Fox continued improving and developing his ribs over the next few years when his son William Henry Fox joined the company around 1913 and around this time adopted the trademark 'Paragon'.’

The maker's name also features at the centre of the canopy:
'S. Fox & Co. Frames'

The shaft ends in an original metal ferrule.
