'Brigg was one of the UK’s top walking stick and umbrella manufacturers until February 1943, when Swaine & Adeney on Piccadilly and Thomas Brigg & Sons, around the corner at 23 St James's Street decided to join forces. From 1943 until 1990 the company traded as Swaine, Adeney, Brigg & Sons Ltd' 

There is also a silversmith's mark M.J for the London-based Silversmith: 

Maria Johnson 
Thomas Johnson was one of Briggs silversmiths throughout the 1800s until his death in the late 1890s and is noted in page 102 of the ‘In Good Hands – Swaine Adeney Brigg’ book by Katherine Prior. At this time, the makers mark ‘T.J’ used by Thomas was replaced with ‘M.J’ for his wife, and his grandson Arthus continued operating under the M.J mark into the 1930s. ​
