This antique cane is furnished with a resin ball handle & upper shaft. The ball section is engraved with 2 decorative Chinese dragons.
Below the ball handle is a resin section with sculpted representations of the Sanxing:
'The Sanxing or 'Three Stars' are the gods of the three celestial bodies considered essential in Chinese astrology and mythology: Jupiter, Ursa Major, and Canopus. In human form, the gods are represented as three, old, bearded, wise men - Fu, Lu, and Shou. They are also the embodiments of Fortune (Fu), Prosperity (Lu), and Longevity (Shou).
Fu is generally depicted in a scholar's dress with golden trim, holding a scroll. He may also be seen holding a child or surrounded by children.
The star of Lu is considered the deity of prosperity, rank, and influence. He is often depicted holding a Ruyi scepter & wearing the dress of a mandarin.
The star of Shou is recognized by his high, domed forehead and the peach, which he carries as a symbol of immortality. The longevity god is usually shown smiling and friendly, and he may sometimes be carrying a calabash gourd filled with the elixir of life.'
Below the handle is a brass section of shaft. This is skilfully engraved with Chinese flowers & symbols.
The shaft below the brass section is turned treen which is decorated using pyrography with 2 images of Chinese people, a vase of flowers & 3 Chinese symbols.
