This antique fruitwood walking stick is hand-carved from a single piece of wood. The top is carved into the shape of an imp's head inspired by the famous 'Lincoln Imp'.
'The Lincoln Imp is a stone carving located inside Lincoln Cathedral, known for its mischievous appearance and legendary tales. The imp, a grotesque figure with a half-human, half-animal form, is depicted sitting cross-legged on a pillar in the Angel Choir. Legend says the imp was sent by the devil to cause havoc in the cathedral, but was turned to stone by an angel.'
Fruitwood shaft with intact bark & a twist from about two-thirds down, ending in a metal ferrule.
'This type of twisting sometimes occurs naturally when a vine grows around a young tree. As the tree grows, it attempts to grow around the vine, creating the beautiful twisted shape.'
