This malacca walking stick is furnished with a repousse silver metal top. There is a cartouche engraved with a presentation:
'Anrheg
Y Tabernacl M.C.
1919
Porthmadog'
The Welsh word 'Anrheg' translates as 'gift'.
'The history of "Tabernacle" churches in Wales involves numerous nonconformist chapels established across the country from the 19th century onwards, often to meet growing congregations or to provide services in English for English-speaking migrants.'
'Porthmadog is a coastal town and community in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd, Wales, and the historic county of Caernarfonshire. It grew in the 19th century as a port for local slate, but as the trade declined, it continued as a shopping and tourism centre, being close to Snowdonia National Park and the Ffestiniog Railway. The 1987 National Eisteddfod was held there.'
There is a dark-stained malacca shaft ending in a metal ferrule.
A unique & sturdy stick, suitable for use or a collector.
