This walking stick features a hand-carved nutcracker handle in the shape of an old man's head wearing a nightcap. There is a hinged handle that moves the man's lower jaw to enable it to be used to crack nuts.

The handle is furnished with a silver collar hallmarked for: 
'Birmingham 1919' 
And features a makers mark: 
'H&F' 
For the Birmingham-based fancy goods dealers: 
'Hall & Fitzgerald' 

The collar is engraved with a presentation for the original owner: 
'J.O.O.F
Bristol 
1920'
