'Brigg London was one of the UK’s top walking stick and umbrella manufacturers until February 1943, when Swaine & Adeney on Piccadilly and Thomas Brigg & Sons, round the corner at 23 St James's Street decided to join forces. From 1943 until 1990 the company traded as Swaine, Adeney, Brigg & Sons Ltd'

'Charles Cooke'
'The silversmith Charles Cooke was the chief mounter of gold and silver ornaments to Thomas Brigg & Sons.
Until 1888 Charles was in business with his brother, John Robert Cooke, their business being located at 17, Frith Street in 1888, 56, Frith Street, and 17, Bateman Street, Soho, in 1889. They moved again later that year to 49, Rupert Street, Soho. In 1900 he was listed as being at 1a, Dyott Street, WC, and removed yet again c.1907 to 4, Rigmount Street, Bedford Square.'


The collar is engraved with a presentation:
'G. McIlquham
H. Morgan
Staverton
Glos.'


The umbrella has a bamboo shaft with full metal fixings, ending in a metal ferrule.

 The frame holds a black silk canopy and is stamped with the frame maker's name:
'Paragon (Lock) S. Fox & Co. Limited.'
For the premium umbrella frame makers:
'Samuel Fox'
‘It was in 1848 that Samuel Fox, a wire drawer by trade, started to make solid steel ribs in Stocksbridge, near Sheffield.
Fox was a master wire drawer and it was this skill in the production of fine quality wire that he turned to the production of umbrella ribs.
Samuel Fox continued improving and developing his ribs over the next few years when his son William Henry Fox joined the company around 1913 and around this time adopted the trademark 'Paragon'.’
