Henry Howell & Co walking sticks was founded in 1832 and was originally based at 76 Aldersgate, London. In its time, the cane manufacturer known as Henry Howell & Company, London, England was the largest and one of the world’s most prestigious makers of fine walking sticks. ​
 
The top is also embossed with the emblem for:
East Lancashire Regiment
The East Lancashire Regiment was, from 1881 to 1958, a line infantry regiment of the British Army. ​

The top features the name of the original owner:
C.S.M F.Ryding
Company Sergeant Major Frederick Ryding served as a Private (number 250774) in the British Army during the First World War, attached to the East Lancashire Regiment.
