This antique walking stick is made from a single piece of hazel with intact bark, with the shaft formed by a side branch.
It features a Fritz handle with a Victorian silver sixpence at one end.
The stick is furnished with a silver collar hallmarked for:
'Birmingham 1896'
With a maker's mark:
'H.S'
'In 1821, two brothers, Moses and Lewis Samuel, opened a silversmith and clock-making business in Liverpool. In 1862, Harriet Samuel took over the business from her father-in-law Moses, and renamed it H. Samuel. She moved it to Market Street, Manchester, and ran it as a mail-order business.
