This Victorian walking stick features a skilfully hand-carved treen top in the shape of a bulldog-type dog's head, with original sharp glass eyes.
The stick is furnished with an ornately-engraved silver collar with hallmarks for:
'Birmingham 1896'
With a maker's mark:
'F.N'
For the Birmingham whip & stick mounter:
'Frederick Narborough'
'In 1850 Frederick Narborough set up a small workshop to specialise in the manufacture of handcrafted sterling silver mounted walking canes for the gentry. He later merged with another company to form Dalman & Narborough Ltd, of Birmingham.'
There is a cartouche that is engraved with the initials of the original owner:
'BB'
