The 53rd (Young Soldier) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment was a basic recruit training unit formed in October 1917 from the 62nd Training Reserve Battalion (previously the 12th Reserve Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers). It was established as a holding and training unit to prepare 17-year-old recruits for active service.
